In a historic first for India, a foreign university has announced a full-fledged campus on Indian soil. “University of Wollongong” is all set to open their international campus at Savvy Pragya-2 at GIFT City, the first and the only operational smart city in India. We are happy to share that Dr. Minu Agarwal, Adjunct Assistant Professor at CEPT University, recently conducted a groundbreaking study on the critical issue of #lightpollution at the Kensville Golf and Country Club. The observations revealed that in today's polluted cities, the dark sky has become nearly invisible, obscured by the overwhelming presence of artificial lights. However, the pristine environment of Kensville Golf and Country Club paints a different picture, illuminating the night sky with its pollution-free conditions. The event served as a poignant reminder of the detrimental effects of light pollution on our ecosystems, wildlife, and human well-being. As a sustainability consultant, we recommend the following measures to address the growing issue of light pollution: - Minimize upward-facing external lighting. - Limit the lighting power densities to a maximum of 2W/sq.m for 50% of the building facade. By implementing these measures, we can effectively reduce light pollution, ensuring better access to the night sky and preserving the nocturnal environment for future generations.
