Sultan Ahmed Shah laid foundation of this city at 1.20 pm on Thursday, the 26 February 1411 (the second day of Dhu al-Qi'dah, Hijri year 813) at Manek Burj. He chose it as the new capital and named Ahmedabad, after him.
Ahmedabad has the honour to be India's FIRST World Heritage City inscription by UNESCO.
