In the vast tapestry of India, cricket emerges not just as a sport but as a unifying force, often referred to as a religion. While football may be the fervent devotion in Brazil, the crowd of cricket fans in Uttar Pradesh alone may surpass the population of the entire South American nation. The Indian cricket team, a microcosm of India's rich diversity, stands as a representative of a sixth of the world's population. From the bustling city of Mumbai comes Rohit Sharma, while Shreyas Iyer, with roots in Kerala, proudly hails from Maharashtra. K L Rahul, a Mangalorean, shares the team with Hardik Pandya, a proud Gujarati. Surya Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav bring the essence of Uttar Pradesh to the squad. R Ashwin epitomizes Tamil Nadu, while Gujarat claims Ravindra Jadeja. Mohammed Siraj represents Telangana, and Mohammad Shami is from Uttar Pradesh. Virat Kohli adds the Delhi flair, while Shubhman Gill represents Punjab, and Bumrah is a Ramgarhia Sikh from Gujarat. As Kabir Khan showed us in 'Chak De India,' together, all of them represent and stand for just India, i.e., Bharat. As the Indian cricket team prepares for the ICC World Cup 2023 finals, their diversity mirrors the mosaic of India, embodying a sixth of the world's populace. Best of luck to them in the finals as they carry the hopes and dreams of a nation woven together by the love of cricket.
