Since the beginning of my tenure as Chairperson QCI, I always felt that I had been given the responsibility to bring changes on ground and touch the lives of Indian citizens. Today, I feel humbled that one of my dearest endeavours to connect with villages has gotten wings. The Sarpanch Samvaad app was launched by His Excellency, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Assam in Guwahati in the presence of 30+ Sarpanchs from different parts of country. Today I feel proud and emotional to start the journey of promoting quality at grassroot level with the launch of Sarpanch Samvaad. I was inspired by the amazing stories shared by Sarpanches from different corners of the country who are committed to bring development in their area. Through this mission Quality Council of India aims to create a mission for Quality of Life and service delivery for the common man by leveraging the power of our grassroot leaders across the country. We are happy to share that Dr. Minu Agarwal, Adjunct Assistant Professor at CEPT University, recently conducted a groundbreaking study on the critical issue of #lightpollution at the Kensville Golf and Country Club. The observations revealed that in today's polluted cities, the dark sky has become nearly invisible, obscured by the overwhelming presence of artificial lights. However, the pristine environment of Kensville Golf and Country Club paints a different picture, illuminating the night sky with its pollution-free conditions. The event served as a poignant reminder of the detrimental effects of light pollution on our ecosystems, wildlife, and human well-being. As a sustainability consultant, we recommend the following measures to address the growing issue of light pollution: - Minimize upward-facing external lighting. - Limit the lighting power densities to a maximum of 2W/sq.m for 50% of the building facade. By implementing these measures, we can effectively reduce light pollution, ensuring better access to the night sky and preserving the nocturnal environment for future generations.
